Amaryllis Kontostavlaki, BSc., PgD, MSc.
Family, Couple & Systemic Therapist
I am a professionally qualified and an accredited systemic psychotherapist offering both long-term and brief focused therapy in English, Greek and when needed in high German.

Having earned a Master of Science and Postgraduate Certificate in Family Therapy from Kings College, University of London and a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Psychology from University of La Verne, California, Athens Campus,  I  have worked as a systemic therapist in Child, Adolescent and Adult Mental Health Services in Greece, UK and Switzerland. Therefore, I have had first-hand experience in dealing with the challenges of settling in a new country and culture! My therapeutic orientation is eclectic, stemming from narrative, solution-focused, cognitive-behavioural and race/culture/gender-sensitive therapy.  It is important to me to always tailor my approach and treatment to what is in the best interest of my client.

I have in-depth knowledge of treating families affected by highly complex, emotive and often conflictual issues. My professional satisfaction comes from working with children, adolescents, adults, families and couples who are struggling with a broad range of issues, ranging from depression, anxiety, eating disorders, life transitions, immigration, loss, challenging relationships, infidelity, divorce, sexual identity confusion and parenting issues (single parent households, step-parenting, blended families, parent/child conflict).

Being among the first people in UK to be trained in the therapeutic approach of Non Violent Resistance (NVR) by Haim Omer, I have contributed to the development, manualisation and delivering of NVR multi-parent group program within Oxleas CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service) until the end of 2008. The methods and principles of this approach stem from Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks’ ideas in the socio-political sphere and address violent, aggressive and self-destructive behaviours in children and adolescents. While applying the evolving NVR principles in my private practice, I have since the beginning of 2014 undertaken the role of an NVR supervisor for NVR practitioners in Zurich.
